The Greater Kingston chorus of Sweet Adelines lost a very dear friend on Feb. 2, 2010. Joan was a Sweet Adeline member for forty-seven years, our treasurer for many years, president, bass section leader, Regional board member – a leader that one could turn to and receive help at any time. She was a great support and inspiration for the entire chorus.
Joan was the bass in the “Maple Sugars” quartet, followed by “The Classics” – both quartets doing well in competition.
Joan was the wife of Irv. Thompson, and some time after his death she married Pat Good. She is also missed by her children Susan (Wayne) and David (Sue). Nursing was her profession – also practiced well with a helping hand to many patients.
Through the years I’ve come to know that friends who really care
Are special gifts of life because true friendship is very rare
So now, just thinking of Joan gives my heart a lift
For friendships shared with her has been a very special gift.
Respectfully submitted,
Faye Dennison
You can find more pictures of the dedication of a stone in Joan's name at Kingston's City Park, in the gallery here.
Gerry Sagriff was a wonderful member of Greater Kingston Chorus for 3 years and a very good friend to us all. Her face lit up when she sang. She will be missed by us all but will always be with us in spirit.
Betty Sorensen passed away on August 8, 2012 after a six year battle wtih Alzheimer's disease. She shared her joy and love of singing with The Kingston Chorus of Sweet Adelines, and will be fondly remembered as our enthusiastic, committed director from 1965 to 1979. Betty enjoyed quartet singing and was a wonderful tenor with "The Canadiannes", and then with "The Classics" for twelve years, until she moved to British Columbia with her husband Frank. We thank Glenn, Stephen, and Vikki for sharing their mother with Sweet Adelines.
